About The Conductors
Tama Rowan conducts the Junior Academy Singers. Tama holds Bachelor and Master degrees
in Music Education from the University of Oregon. She has taught music in the Eugene/Springfield area
for over 25 years. Currently she is the music specialist at Mt. Vernon Elementary School in
Springfield. Tama is also director with Rose Children’s Theater. Tama has been with the Oregon Children’s Choir since 2003.
Kathryn Leonard is currently the music specialist and drama instructor at O’Hara Catholic School, and is on the voice faculty of The John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts, where she has been the curriculum designer and lead teacher for The Music Box program, SongFest camps and Musical Theatre camps. Kathryn has also served as the Music Director and Curriculum Designer for the Eugene Concert Choir’s Educational Outreach Program, bringing free music education to over 1,000 children in public schools. As a performer, Kathryn has given solo recitals in venues such as Pittock Mansion, the Old Church, and as part of the Hult Center’s SHOcase series, and has sung with many choirs across the Northwest. Locally, Kathryn has been a soloist for the Eugene Vocal Arts Ensemble and the Eugene Concert Choir, and has been a lead performer for the Oregon Festival of American Music. Kathryn has been with the Oregon Children’s Choir since 2013.
About the Junior Academy Singers (Two Choirs for 2nd – 5th grade boys & girls) The Junior Academy Singers is for boys and girls in 2nd – 5th grades. The Junior Academy Singers goes on a 1-day performance tour each spring. Under the direction of Tama Rowan (Boys) and Kathryn Leonard (Girls) they perform at all 4 of our main choir concerts during the year. They meet once a week on Monday afternoons.

Time Commitment and Attendance
Choristers must attend all major choir events:
- All Rehearsals (no more than 2 unexcused absences per term are allowed)
- First Rehearsal Sept 12 4:30- 5:30pm in rooms 11&12, 16
- Rehearsals for the Junior Academy Singers are Mondays from 4:30 to 5:30.
- Fall Retreat with Performance – October
- Winter Concert – December
- Spring Event – March
- Finale Concert – May
- 1-Day Performance Tour, May

The Oregon Children’s Choir is a non-profit organization. Its operating expenses, which include music, conductor’s salaries, and rehearsal space, are funded by chorister tuition.
- Tuition for the upcoming season, September through June, is $425.
- Choral Uniform Polo and T-shirt – approximately $30
- Spring Performance Tour – approximately $75

We offer discounts for families with more than one child enrolled with OCC. The discount is 25% off the second child’s tuition, and 50% off per chorister for any additional siblings. Discount is taken from the lower tuition(s). Note: Pay each chorister’s full tuition and the appropriate discount will be applied towards your chorister’s trip cost.
We offer several need based scholarships. Please ask for a scholarship application with your registration materials.
